Because Iago is much too smart to immediately kill Othello, he proceeds with the arduous process of dismantling him emotionally. Iago also knows he must distance himself from any part of this, so he cleverly gets someone to do his dirty work. The first to fall victim to Iago's manipulation is half-witted Roderigo. Iago knows Roderigo is consumed by lust for Desdemona, and would do what it takes to make her his own. Iago tells Roderigo that the only way to win Desdemona's love is to make money to procure gifts for her. Put money in thy purse?(act I scene 3 line 339). However Iago is just taking those gifts intended for Desdemona and keeping them for himself, and making a profit. Roderigo eventually starts to question Iago's honesty. When faced with the accusations, Iago simply offers that the killing of Cassio will aid in his cause and Roderigo falls for it. In doing this, Iago keeps Roderigo in the dark and continues to profit from him monetarily. Roderigo is also used as a device in both Cassio and Othello's downfall. Iago's actions demonstrate his monetary and power based motivations, invalidating the claim that Iago is evil for evil's sake. Cassio like Roderigo follows Iago blindly, thinking the whole time that Iago is trying to aid him, when in fact Iago, motivated by his lust for power, is attempting to remove Cassio of his position as lieutenant. With Roderigo's help Iago causes Cassio to forfeit his position as Othello's second-in-command. Cassio is also used to bring out the monster inside of Othello. In Iago's exploitation of Cassio, it is clear to see that, although evil in his deeds, Iago is strictly motivated by his hunger for power. As mentioned earlier, Iago's main intention lies in the degradation of Othello. Iago feels that he was best suited to hold the position of lieutenant, as opposed to Michael Cassio. The characters are merely a piece in the scenario and the mise-en-scene and the camera is what makes the protagonist and the antagonist bleed out in a scene populated by a sea of people. The mise-en-scene is also able to take the audiences into the era the film is pertaining to with it hue colors with brownish sepia tone which gives the feel of the 80s and 90s. (Williams, 154) The auditory and cinematic space of the film also complement each other. The visuals being stunning matched with great music is definitely what makes a good comedy. The title of the film has been perceived as a symbolism and was submitted to different interpretations. One would say that the tail is the media with the tail being the political campaigns. The interpretation that is most likely to be associated with the title is that the citizens of America are represented by the dog and the government is the tail, thus the irony of the tail wagging the dog. This is probably referring to the movies premise wherein a greater catastrophe is given birth by something that is as small as a sex scandal compared to a war. Halfway through the film, although it can be a bit dragging, the film never faltered in giving what the audiences expected and delivering its promise but still suspends some factors for the audiences imaginations. It did not perceive its audiences as slow and dim-witted relevant because it does not explain itself. The film is also fearless in creating a film which is a social commentary that satirically attacks the political system. The film is, without a doubt socially relevant and historically significant. Wag the Dog is, in all likelihood a great film with a comic sensibility that takes on the political and media dilemma that is entirely original when it comes to its overall atmosphere without the feeling that neither the characters nor the director is overanalyzing the plot. The film is rich in content and the plot is logical that included an ensemble of great cast that gave compelling performances. The plot resembles scepticism and the ambiance of the film brings to mind the film Dr. Strangelove. Levinson succeeds in creating a character-driven film wherein the plot becomes a backdrop for the characters rather than the vice-versa. With an ensemble of great actors that gave a splendid performance, the film becomes relatable and more believable that audiences tend to think twice making the film a social commentary, a black comedy and also a cautionary tale of the potential dangers that could result from a political-induced media frenzy. The purpose of this paper is to provide financial analysis of PepsiCo and Coca Cola, provide examples that explain which company is more financially sound, and to provide recommendations on how to improve each company financially. The first item that I will discuss is a vertical analysis of both companies. Vertical analysis is used to evaluate data and express the items of a financial statement as a percentage of a base amount listed. For the vertical analysis of PepsiCo and Coca Cola I looked at both the balance sheet and the income statements. The valuations that I took into consideration for this vertical analysis were the cost of goods sold as a percentage of net sales, net income as a percentage of net sales, current assets compared to total assets and the percentage change year to year, and the current liabilities compared to total liabilities and the percentage change from year to year. The cost of goods sold percentage shows how much is actually costs to produce and sell the items that a make company money. The net income as a percentage of sales shows how much money from the sale of an item is actually considered income that the company makes. The current assets compared to total assets shows how much of the assets a company has are actually available at a given time. Th e current liabilities compared to total liabilities shows how much of a company’s liability lays in a current status for the year. PepsiCo 2004 2005 Percentage C... ...it would add capital to the reserves and they would in turn be able to expand. With Coca Cola I would recommend increasing their assets. One way to increase their assets would be to decrease their payout ratio, in my opinion these two items go hand in hand.
